Different items require different intervals of washing and dry cleaning. Although there are no set rules for linen cleaning, there are some general best practices to follow.
If your comforter doesn’t have a duvet to keep it neat and tidy you should wash it once every couple of months. For comforters with duvets, you only need to wash them once or twice a year. Usually, blankets and comforters can be machine washed on a gentle cycle, but make sure the capacity of your home washer can handle their weight. If not, you can always get help from a professional service.
Your clothes and skin come in close contact with your sheets, which is why they should be washed every week. This is a proactive approach to prevent bacteria, dust mites, dirt, body oils, and allergens from building up.
Your pillowcases need to be washed the most often of all your bedding items. It’s because, as you sleep, your hair and face rub against the pillowcase, transferring oils and grime. Wash your pillowcases every five to seven days, or more frequently if you suffer from acne or allergies.
Dead skin and allergens can still lodge on pillows even with pillowcases. So every three months, give your pillows a good washing to keep them in top shape. You can wash most pillows in the washing machine for a good clean, but be sure to check the label first.
The key to maintaining table linens looking their best is to immediately treat stains and wash them. Many modern table linens are made from synthetic materials and include a care label with washing instructions. Wash tablecloths at least once per month, or more frequently if soiled.
