
Back to School Clothing Tips for Your Kids
School is almost here!! If your kids are going back to school this fall – high school, middle school, elementary, pre-k, or even babies + toddlers – here’s a few ways to make your transition easier.
Step 1: Go through your child’s closet and see what still fits and what is too small.
Step 2: Back-to-school shopping! Don’t forget these items:
- Jeans: 3-4 pairs
- Shorts: 3-4 pairs
- Short Sleeve Shirts: 4-6
- Long Sleeve Shirts: 4-6
- Dresses: 2-4
- Leggings: 3-4 pairs
- Socks: 8-12 pairs
- Underwear: 8-12 pairs
- Shoes: pair of tennis shoes, flats, and sandals
Step 3: Hang up or fold each item and put in their closet so they are ready to go!
Creating a weekly routine will do wonders for getting ready quickly every morning!
Tip 1: Add your children’s clothes to a drawer storage container so they know what to wear each day. You can plan out the whole week on Sundays so their clothes are ready for them!
Tip 2: Create a morning and evening routine to get backpacks ready, homework done, and prep your kids for success.
Morning routines help prepare kids for the day as well as making sure that they don’t forget anything. Some things you could add to your morning routine:
- Put pjs in the laundry basket
- Put on clothes for the day
- Make your bed
- Eat breakfast
- Brush your teeth
- Make lunch
- Grab backpack
After school or before bed routines are also great to help make sure that everything that needs done gets done and stays organized. Here’s a few things you could add to your after school routine:
- Grab snack
- Do homework
- Put backpack away
- Put on pjs
- Put day clothes in the laundry
- Put shoes away
- Brush teeth
- Read
Does your child wear a school uniform? They can still prep the clothes and create a morning and after-school routine. Here’s a few other tips if your kids’ wear uniforms to school:
How many uniforms to buy: Determine how much you want to spend on uniforms. This will play into how far ahead you can plan your kids’ clothing for the week.
Washing & Drying: If you have enough items to make it all the way through the week, you can wash and dry the uniforms on the weekend. If you know that your kids need to wash their uniforms half way through the week to make sure that they have clothes for each day, build that into your weekly routine.

Cleaning your children’s clothing items can be a BIG job. Here’s a few options to consider to make laundering your kids’ clothes easier:
- If the kids are old enough, teach them to wash, dry, fold, and put away their own clothes.
- Choose a laundry routine. You could wash 1 load of clothes a day or bulk wash loads during the weekend.
